Sensitive skin is characterized by the following features:
1. Thin appearance, prone to sensitivity, visible redness on the face (dilated capillaries).
2. Skin easily flushes red with temperature changes, whether too cold or too hot.
3. Easily affected by environmental factors (contact-sensitive skin, red-sensitive skin, stress-sensitive skin), seasonal changes, and facial care product irritants. Often attributed to genetic factors, but mostly due to the use of steroid-containing cosmetics leading to sensitive skin and potential overall skin sensitivity.
Underlying reasons for sensitive skin include:
1. Skin cell damage leading to reduced skin immunity, thinning of the stratum corneum resulting in insufficient skin moisture, ultimately weakening the skin barrier function, making it unable to resist external stimuli. Overstimulated skin nerve fibers due to frequent external stimuli result in redness, heat, itching, stinging, rashes, and other discomfort. This is mainly caused by skin contact with steroid-containing substances.
2. Genetic factors causing sensitive or hyperreactive skin.
Common skin concerns associated with sensitive skin include:
1. Easily reddened, heated, itchy, stinging skin due to external irritants.
2. Severe cases may exhibit skin redness, swelling, and rashes.
3. Uneven skin tone, post-inflammatory marks, or spots.
4. Thin skin, incomplete stratum corneum, prone to flaking.
5. Poor skin hydration, tightness, and dryness.
6. Sudden unexplained acne outbreaks unresponsive to acne treatment products. Acne causes may typically include diet, hormonal imbalance, stress, or genetics.
